Lyrics
I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show

And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around us

And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

Oh, where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh, oh, where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?

And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
If you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?

Lyrics:
It’s Friday after 5
Got here just in time
Went ahead and wet a line before I went and lost my mind
And I ain’t been here long but the bobber’s in the pond going up down up down up down

Tonight we’re gonna raise
A whole lot more than cane
Cause there’s money in the bank and tomorrow’s Saturday
so if they pass that fifth of jack this way
I turn it up down up down up down

we’re just holding it down here in BFE
Still rolling around with a burnt cd
Free bird five minutes deep head bobbing up down up down up down
We got what we got, we don’t need the rest
Can turn this parking lot into a party with an ice chest and some cold beer man
We live it up down up down we live it up down here

Yeah the girls they hit the spot
Even hotter when it’s hot
If you can’t buy her a yacht
But still proud of what you got
Cause when the day’s done
That red neck is from the sun
Going up down up down up down

we’re just holding it down here in BFE
Still rolling around with a burnt cd
Free bird five minutes deep head bobbing up down up down up down
We got what we got, we don’t need the rest
Can turn this parking lot into a party with an ice chest and some cold beer man
We live it up down up down we live it up down here

Somebody pass that fifth of Camp this way
I’ll turn it up down, up down, Up down

we’re just holding it down here in BFE
Still rolling around with a burnt cd
Free bird five minutes deep head bobbing up down up down up down
We got what we got, we don’t need the rest
Can turn this parking lot into a party with an ice chest and some cold beer man
We live it up down up down we live it up down here

Lirieke:

Ek sit hier in die Boland
Ek sit en dink aan jou
Ek sien hoe hierdie berge
Hoe die berge onthou

Ek vertrou nie meer op woorde nie
Ek luister na die wind
Ek dans nie meer vir mense nie
Maar op die ritme van ‘n kind

Katrientjie Katryn
Jou wêreld het in kleure verskyn
Jy dans kaalvoet by die afgrond verby
Ek onthou jou nog jou hande so klein

Katrientjie Kartryn
Jy vleg met al jou woorde so fyn
Al die detail van die groot en die klein
Sien jy Katrientjie Katryn?

As kind het jy geloftes
Aan hierdie berge afgelê
Jou naam wat in Sy boesem was
Het in die sterre gaan lê

Die wyn wat eens net water was
Les nou meer as net ‘n dors
Dis ‘n stroom van wie en wat ons was
En van wat het ons word

Katrientjie Katryn
Jou wêreld het in kleure verskyn
Jy dans kaalvoet by die afgrond verby
Ek onthou jou nog jou hande so klein

Katrientjie kartryn
Jy vleg met al jou woorde so fyn
Al die detail van die groot en die klein
Sien jy Katrientjie Katryn?

Ek onthou nog altyd ‘n droom oor jou en my
Dit wat die droogtes laat verdwyn

Katrientjie Katryn
Jou wêreld het in kleure verskyn
Jy dans kaalvoet by die afgrond verby
Ek onthou jou nog jou hande so klein

Katrientjie kartryn
Jy vleg met al jou woorde so fyn
Al die detail van die groot en die klein
Sien jy Katrientjie Katryn?

Theuns Jordaan is a very well-known South African artist, born on a farm close to Venterstad in the Eastern Cape on 10 January 1971. He matriculated from Hoër Volkskool in Graaff-Reinet, after which he completed his military training in the South African Defence Force. Following this he enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch where he obtained a B Econ degree. It was during his time at university that he first began singing, and his first public appearance was at The Terrace on 21 October 1992. In 1998 he moved to Pretoria and subsequently released his first album, Vreemde Stad, in 2000 at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) in Oudtshoorn. It went on to sell more than 201,000 units. His second album, Tjailatyd, was released at Aardklop in Potchefstroom in 2002. This album has sold more than 220 000 to date.

In November 2005 he released Seisoen (more than 115 000 units sold to date) and then celebrated 7 years as a professional artist with the release of Grootste Treffers in 2007. In 2008 he collaborated with Juanita du Plessis on the DVD and CD release of Bring Jou Hart, which has sold more than 105 000 units. Being a huge fan of the music of the iconic Afrikaans singer, Koos du Plessis, Theuns released Koue Vuur in 2009, covering Koos du Plessis songs. It reached platinum status within 2 months. In 2012 he released his 5th solo album, Roeper, and also released Hart Vol Drome with Juanita du Plessis.

As a singer he is known for his deep, gravelly voice, but he has also proven to be a prolific song writer, with songs such as Soos Bloed, Jou Asem, Roeper van My Hart and Net Voor die Storm Kom.

This song is off his 1st album, Vreemde Stad, released in 2000.

Thanks, TERESA CALITZ, for this one!

South African Artist: Nicholis Louw
Track 06 off his CD ‘My hart is aan die brand’ (2004 – SELECT MUSIC)

Nicholis Louw is a pop artist from South Africa. He entered the mainstream with his song ‘Net Die Een Vir My (Maia Hee)’ feat the group ‘Shine 4’, a track from his debut album ‘My hart is aan die brand’ (2004). His song, ‘Rock daai lyfie’ (Rock that body) surely must count as his most famous song. It was released on his CD ‘Rock daai lyfie’ in 2005.

Nicholis Louw has been one of the top best sellers in the commercial Afrikaans scene over the last decade.
