Platteland is set to the biggest Afrikaans musical to date and is scheduled for cinema release nationally on 16 June 2011. The film tells the story of Riana van Niekerk (Lianie May) who is desperately fighting to save her family’s farm from Mike Ferreira (Steve Hofmeyr) who has his own agenda and is determined to drive Riana from the land and seize her farm. When Dirk Pretorius (Bok van Blerk), a drifter with many secrets of his own, arrives in town, new alliances are formed and love blossoms in the most unlikely quarters. Platteland features some of the greatest hits of the past few years including Tyd om te Trek (Bok van Blerk), Vergeet My Nie (Lianie May) and Pa en Seun (Steve Hofmeyr en Bok van Blerk), ensuring that Platteland will be hugely popular. The stellar cast comprises Bok van Blerk who shot to fame with his massive hit De la Rey and has since become one of the biggest names in Afrikaans music. He has a string of hits behind his name, including Tyd om te Trek, My Kreet and Die Kaplyn. He garnered the 2009 SAMA Award for his top selling album Afrikanerhart. Steve Hofmeyr, the bad boy of the South African music scene, started his acting career in the phenomenally successful television series Agter Elke Man before going on to cement his reputation as South Africa’s most successful singer and songwriter with sales in excess of two million and a string of chart-topping hits such as Pampoen, Agter Elke Man and FM Stereo. “Like a Prayer” is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her fourth studio album of the same name (1989). Sire Records released it as the album’s lead single on March 21, 1989. Written and produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, “Like a Prayer” denoted a more artistic and personal approach to songwriting for Madonna, who believed that she needed to cater more to her adult audience. The song is about a passionate young girl in love with God, who becomes the only male figure in her life. “Like a Prayer” is a pop rock song that incorporates elements of gospel music. It became Madonna’s seventh number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and reached the top of the singles charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The single is also memorable for its accompanying music video, which Mary Lambert directed. It features Madonna as a witness to a murder, as she hides in a church for safety. The clip also portrays Catholic symbols such as stigmata and burning crosses, and a dream about …
